Is University IFM recognised ?

University IFM programmes are recognized in Europe and USA and internationally accredited by IACBE International Assembly of Collegiate Business Education USA. IACBE earns CHEA Recognition. University IFM is a recognised member of the following accrediting bodies and associations: FSEP Swiss Federation of Private Schools (CH), ACBSP Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs, ECIS European Council of International Schools. What are the programmes offered at IFM ?
University IFM offers undergraduate programmes in International Business Administration, Finance, Business Communication and Hotel Management. undergraduate programmes

What are the differences between the various Bachelors ?

What is the duration of your study programmes ?
University IFM undergraduate programmes are usually 3 years in length (9 terms).
University IFM postgraduate programmes are usually 9 months length (3 terms).

University IFM postgraduate part time MBA is usually 18 months length (6 terms).

In which language are the courses taught ?
Bachelor : courses are taught in English.
Some degrees may have 3rd specialization year courses taught in French.

MBA : courses are fully taught in English.


What are the language requirements ? Do I have to know another language ?
There is no need to know another language. For example : a student in the English section does not need to know French.
But some undegraduate degrees may have 3rd specialization year courses taught in French. Please refer to the specific degrees.

Do you offer language classes (French, German, Spanish…) ?
We only offer Business French or Business English. These courses are part of the Bachelor programme.

Who are the professors?

How many students are there in a class ?
Bachelor : approximately 20 to 25 students in core courses. 15 students in elective courses.
MBA : approximately 20 students per class.

What is the student/professor ratio ?
Our personalised approach and our small classes allow us to offer you a ratio of 5 students for 1 professor.

Where is your campus located ?
The University IFM has an attractive location. It is located in the heart of Geneva, in the University area, 5mn away from the lake, a lovely park, of the old town and of the bank area > IFM campus

Where are the students from ?
IFM welcomes students from over 40 different countries; the majority are Swiss and European. Main nationalities : Swiss, French, English, Italian, American, Russian.

Do you have student activities and student club ?
Yes, different activities are proposed by IFM and its Student Club : Ski trips, cocktails, parties, trips, theatre or cultural visits > student life

Do you have exchange or study abroad programmes ?
You can make a credit transfer to another university which is part of our accreditation body (210 universities in 17 countries). It is not an exchange program, the student is then registered in his new university. You can then again ask to be tranferred to IFM.

Does the university provide students with a career service ?

Our student counselor is available to help students and give them academic and career advice. Our online career service with internships and job offers is updated regularly. We also offer career sessions to help students prepare CVs or interviews. What’s more, IFM offers a unique program of visits in businesses and meetings/presentations with managers from different sectors.

Does the programme include any compulsory company internship ?
Our curriculum does not contain any compulsory company internship. We regularly receive work-experience offers and we display them in our Career Section on Extranet.

 
 
   

Admissions

 

How many intakes are there per year and when should I apply ?
Bachelor : we offer 2 entries a year : October & January.
Master : we offer 3 entries a year : October, January and April.
Students can submit their application before each start date. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis. Deadlines for admission are published. International students living outside of Europe should submit their complete file at least 3 months before the chosen intake.

What are the admission requirements ?
Admissions requirements : Bachelor and MBA.

What are the admissions requirements for international students?

Admissions requirements for international students are similar to those for local students.

Do I need GMAT to be accepted in MBA ?
No, you don’t. This test is not part of the admission requirements in our university. For more information, please read the admission requirements.


What are the admission and the registration procedures ?
Admission Procedure
1. The candidate sends a complete file together with the admission fees.
2. A letter of answer is sent within 15 days. If it is positive, it comes with a registration form.

Registration Procedure

1. The student sends the completed and signed registration form.
2. A letter confirming your registration and an invoice for the tuition fees is sent (if it has not been sent previously)
2. The student must settle financial matters.
3. An attestation of study (registration) is sent.

I will obtain my diploma this year, can I already apply ?
Yes you can, you will then be considered in the preadmission process. We maintain contact with the candidate until results are published.

Does the university accept transfer students from other universities?
Undergraduate only: IFM analyses the application and can make a credit transfer if the student provides all necessary documents from an accredited university (school). IFM does not accept credit transfers at the postgraduate level.

When are the classes scheduled ?
Classes are scheduled at different times of the day throughout the week. A detailed timetable is distributed to students at the beginning of the term.

I would like to do an MBA but I am working. Is there a possibility to combine both ?
Yes, IFM offers a part time MBA program. see

Does IFM offer a part time programme ?
IFM offers a part time programme at postgraduate level only.

Does IFM offer distance learning courses?
No, IFM does not offer distance learning education. All the courses are held on campus.

How do I find accommodation during my studies at IFM ?
IFM does not offer accommodations on its campus. Students may research accommodations by connecting to our list of accommodations.
Our list includes contact numbers and information on residence halls, university housing, hotels, and furnished flats.

I am already a student in Switzerland how do I continue my studies at IFM ?
- If you are studying at a school outside the canton of Geneva you first need to follow admission procedures. Once registered with IFM, IFM will give you an attestation of studies, which you should take to the “Office Cantonal de la Population” (the government and immigration office of the Geneva Canton), where you should ask for a change of residence/permit with the appropriate documentation.
- If you are already studying in Geneva you should follow the same procedures as above asking for a simple change of schools.

Does the admissions letter allow me to obtain a visa for Switzerland ?
The letter of admission does not allow to obtain a visa or residence permit. The authorities need an attestation of studies.

Do I need an insurance in Switzerland ?

Swiss law requires Swiss and international students to be personally insured through an insurance company. > see

Can international students be part-time students ?
No, to obtain a permit, the International student has to be enrolled as a full time student

Are international students allowed to work during their studies at IFM ?
All international students holding a B student permit are allowed to work up to 20 hours a week.

Are there any particular requirements for international students ?
Study fees for international students are the same as for local students.
However, international students must pay the entire annual fees at least 40 days before the beginning of the year.

What are the living costs in Geneva ?
This varies according to housing costs and your personal expenses.

Do you offer scholarships or financial aid ?
IFM is a private university and does not offer scholarships or financial aid. Students who need a scholarship or a loan to pay for their studies must make their request well before their planned entry to IFM.
